Livestock Auction Information
Why should I invest in a youth project?
Buyer participation is the fundamental part of bringing each project to completion by providing a viable market for each participant’s project animal. Profits from the project(s) are often re-invested in other project animals and/or saved for future education.
Why should I buy?
This is a great opportunity to show your support of youth and agriculture in the area and fill your freezer with lean, locally sourced, and wholesome meat.
How do I get a bidder number?
Visit the registration trailer/table located inside the showring of the Showplex building. The auction companies for 2024 will be Benz Enterprises and Bontrager’s Auction Service.
How do I bid on the animal once the auction starts?
When you see an animal you would like to buy, simply raise your hand high enough for the auctioneer to see. If other buyers also raise their hands, keep raising your hand each time you want to raise the bid until the auctioneer announces “Sold!” finalizing the bidding for that animal.
What animals are being sold?
Saturday, August 10th at 6:30pm - Chickens, Rabbits and Turkeys
Saturday, August 17th at 11:30am - Hogs, Lambs, Goats, Dairy Steer, Beef
All Erie County 4-H/FFA kids (regardless of their placement) will sell by specie and then the Youth Livestock Expo (YLE) offers 3 auction spots. One of those slots is guaranteed to the highest placing NY exhibitor in that specie, the other slots go to the highest placing animals from any state (including NY). YLE Exhibitors have the option to opt out of the sale. If that happens, sale slots open up to the nest highest place through 5th place.
Am I able to bid over the phone?
Yes. If you are unable to attend the auction, you may contact the 4-H office to place a bid, or if you would like to call when your selected lot is selling, we would need the best number to reach you at. Contact the 4-H office at 716-652-5400 no later than the day before each auction.
I’ve won the bid, now what?
An auction runner will come to you with an auction sale contract to verify the amount you bid. At that time, you will select the processor you would like your animal sent to. When you have finished biding for the day, please stop at the registration trailer to pay for your complete purchase. The following day you will need to contact the processor to let them know how you would like your animal cut and packaged. Please be sure to be prompt in picking up your purchase from the processor when they call you.
